Canada currently employs 59,000 Military servicemen.Coat of Arms The forces consist of 2,400 armoured fighting vehicles,140 combat aircrafts, and 34 combat vessels. The Canadian Forces are comprised of: the Canadian Forces Land Force Command, which is the army branch; the Canadian Forces Maritime Command, which is the naval branch; and the Canadian Forces Air Command, which is the air force branch. In the 2005 federal budget, the Liberal government allocated $12.9 billion for the armed forces.[3] Since its inception, the Canadian Forces have served in a variety of wars including World War I, World War II, the Korean War and, more recently, Afghanistan.

The Royal Canadian Air Force Association was formed in 1948 as a national advocacy group to support the Royal Canadian Air Force, and to unite Air Force veterans of the Second World War. An Order-in-Council legitimized the new association.NAVY With Treasury Board funding and headquarters accommodation provided by the Department of National Defence, the RCAF Association held its first annual meeting in Ottawa, 16 September, 1948 at which ACM Breadner was named the first Dominion President. Much organizational and administrative work followed, and the first membership cards were issued in February, 1949. Following nearly 30 years after the demise of the RCAF, a name change for the Association was proposed by Air Command to reflect that reality. A change of name was an emotional issue, and the proposal was exhaustively debated within the Association for more than a year before it came to a vote at the annual convention in Winnipeg in October, 1993. The vote was overwhelming, with 82.6% of delegates in attendance voting in favour of a name change. On 1 July, 1994 the Air Force Association of Canada became the new official title of our Association. Over the following two years, the membership of the Association has grown by 30%, to nearly 16,000 regular wing members and members-at-large, and an estimated 5,000 associate members. There are 74 Wings or chapters across Canada and in the western United states (California and Colorado). Wings actively sponsor and support air cadets and other community activities.

Canada's Navy is in the midst of a post-9/11 push to better secure the world's longest coastline and ensure it is pulling its weight in monitoring the continent's maritime frontiers.navy In the aftermath of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on the United States, the Canadian Navy went on a war footing for more than two years. Of the 18 main surface combatants in its fleet, 16 were used in ongoing missions in support of operations against the Taliban and al-Qaeda in Afghanistan and the Middle East. Ninety-six percent of Navy personnel serving in seagoing postings deployed on those operations, the largest international effort the service had made since the Korean War. But with that major mission having wound down, the Navy has turned its attention to improving how it contributes to the maritime security of North America. Canadian Defence Minister Bill Graham noted that the country saw how "permeable" its maritime approaches were in 1999 when several boatloads of Chinese refugees arrived unannounced on its west coast.
